From the bossa nova releases dear to João Gilberto and Vinicius de Moraes, to recent works by Lucas Santtana and Adriana Calcanhotto, to hit songs by Gilberto Gil and Jorge Ben, Brazil is a bottomless well of creativity. A cultural mosaic combining African, European and Native American influences, this vast Latin American country is a consistent source of new projects, albums and groups. Liniker, from São Paulo, adds to this constant stream of musical production. This singer, a transgender figure who has been compared to music legend Tim Maia, combines soul with popular Brazilian music in this performance at Moods Club. This is encapsulated both in the introduction, a climactic sequence kicked off by an excellent traditional choir, and in “Boca,” a song backed by the group Os Caramelows featuring Fernando TRZ on keys and Eder França on saxophone. A true medley of cultures, this musical production nonetheless demonstrates exquisite unity in tone. The final track sums this up: a lively funk session that blends genres without sacrificing coherence, attesting to the effervescence of in-house music production.
