Alfredo Rodriguez, the first guest musician in the _Analogue_ series, encapsulates the openness of Qwest TV. Originally from Cuba, the pianist made a name for himself thanks to a remarkable duet with percussionist Pedrito Martinez, as well as with Coral Way, a recent album that captures the buzzing Miami scene. Discovered by Quincy Jones, this virtuoso is also an outstanding composer, as evidenced by this performance. Backed by a solid rhythm section and an incredible trumpeter, Rodriguez throws himself into the set, which includes the groovy Cuban-inspired “Coral Way” and the beautiful Latin-soul track “Sueño de Luz.” The highlight of this first edition of _Analogue_, however, is a spectacular cover of Michael Jackson’s global hit “Thriller.” Brilliantly innovative, this touching tribute to Q attests to Alfredo Rodriguez’s international reputation.
