The kora is the emblem of Mandingo culture. An entire world is held in this 21- strings harp, a world which contains thousand stories and an infinity of possibilities. It comes from a specific region of West Africa, and today has travelled the whole world and met all the cultures (one can hear its sound featured in pieces by Herbie Hancock, Jordi Savall, Björk, Damon Albarn, Tiken Jah Fakoli…). This instrument is the main gateway to the world of Mandinka culture. We follow Ballaké Sissoko to discover the mythical and historical origins of the kora, listening to its voice as it is expressed today in the festivals and celebrations of Mali, Senegal and Gambia, and imagine its future.
