Tigran Hamasyan answers the invitation of ARTE Concert’s Piano Day! The Armenian artist covers great American jazz standards at the Opéra Comique.

Tigran Hamasyan started playing the piano at a very young age: he was only eleven years old when he was noticed at the Yerevan Jazz Festival. Discovered in the 2000s by a wider public, the Armenian musician can boast, at the age of 23, of having played with, among others, Chick Corea, Avishai Cohen and Daniel Humair.

For the past two decades, Tigran Hamasyan has combined the power of classical music with the freedom of jazz and the sincerity of Armenian folk music. For him, music-making is a personal quest, and he believes that his artistic approach is a way of resisting cultural uniformity.

For this concert in the Salle Bizet of the Opéra Comique, Tigran Hamasyan has drawn on American jazz standards from the 1920s to the 1950s. A harvest that he enhances with Armenian accents, creating as usual bridges between eras and cultures.
