The Brazilian cult band Sepultura is back at Hellfest! They unleash their thrash metal in front of a white-hot audience.
Beware of the weather report: a storm of blasts and a suffocating tropical humidity are announced in the middle of Nantes! At the heart of this maelstrom, the Brazilian phenomenon Sepultura will pour its raging trash metal and its unstoppable hardcore riffs on the Altar stage.
Founded in Belo Horizonte in 1984 – in a context of police repression and the end of the military dictatorship – Sepultura started very early in an explosive metal combining elements of thrash, death, groove and a very noticed protest writing. It is the album Roots (1996) and its title “Roots Bloody Roots” (accompanied by a legendary clip) which crowned the Brazilians on the international metal scene.
More than thirty years later – and even if only the bassist Paulo Jr remains from the original formation – Sepultura has not lost any of its aura. Need proof? The Mediator Between Head and Hands Must Be the Heart (2013) was a phenomenal success, as was their 2020 release Quadra.
