The enchanting Thomas de Pourquery launches himself with the Red Star Orchestra in a crossing of vocal jazz standards. Classy, not classic. It was in Saint-Ouen that the Red Star Orchestra was born, near the Bauer stadium, den of the historic football club. This is where we find him for the launch of Broad Ways, their explosive album recorded at Label Bleu. The team led by Johane Myran recruited the saxophonist who knows how to give his voice for a rereading of the history of jazz, the good old standards, retired with. Howler blues or classy crooner, all soul singer then all swing, while he lives a word, sentence always right, up tempo as low … and masterpieces recover to shine
“We knew the saxophonist Thomas de Pourquery and the pop Thomas de Pourquery (cf. the duo VKNG), here is the crooner Thomas de Pourquery. The multifaceted musician adds a new string to his bow thanks to Broadways, a project launched by the conductor Johane Myran and his Red Star Orchestra. The Parisians – Thomas de Pourquery was born in Bondy, the Red Star Orchestra in Saint-Ouen – revisit together great vocal jazz standards. From “My Funny Valentine” to “My Way”, these hits are reworked and sung with love, elegance and a touch of irreverence.
After having passed through punk, hard bop and experimental jazz, Thomas de Pourquery confirms once again his passion for singing – a penchant he had already indulged with Rigolus, a group led by Sylvain Rifflet and Laurent Bardainne. The artist takes advantage of Broadways to deploy his entire vocal spectrum, becoming caressing, disillusioned or all fire and brimstone according to the songs. A performance inhabited and served by an obvious complicity with the Red Star Orchestra. The ensemble is playing tonight in conquered territory, the festival Banlieues Bleues having organized the opening concert of its 2016 edition in Saint-Ouen!”
