Created in 2017 on the occasion of Magic Malik’s residency at Royaumont, this program centered around Cameroon is an invitation to see much further by looking closer.
Initially, it is a meeting between the flutist with large antennas and a Fulani flute, played by the Burkinabe Dramane Dembelé. But along the way, this project imagined with the late Hilaire Penda and whose Cameroonian dancer Merlin Nyakam became the main mediator, feeds on the traces of the past to question the very nature of what is called jazz, and fertilize it by projecting it into the contemporary field of a “creolized” world.
