Juan Carmona, the revival of flamenco on edge. He orchestrates a fabulous encounter between traditional flamenco and classical writing. Juan Carmona is a French flamenco guitarist, born in Lyon in 1963.
Gone to settle in Andalusia in his youth, he won several international guitar competitions. Several of his albums are nominated for Latin Grammy Awards in the “Best Flamenco Album” category.
Juan Carmona was introduced to flamenco guitar at the age of 10 years and gave his first recital in Marseille in 1978. He stayed for ten years in Jerez de la Frontera in Andalusia, where he perfected his knowledge of flamenco culture. He accompanies singers like Agujetas and Duquende and records among others with Chano Domínguez.
In 1988, Juan Carmona won the grand prize at the International Guitar Contest of Jerez de la Frontera. He won the prize of the Villa Médicis and the trophy Don Antonio Chacón in 1990 and Paco de Lucía the contest in Madrid in 1994.
In 1996, Juan Carmona began his discography career with the album Borboereo recorded under the musical direction of Isidro Muñoz. The same year, he accompanied José Mendez and Moraito Chico on the album Entre dos Barrios and began a series of concerts around the world. His next two albums, Orillas (2003) and Sinfonica Flamenca (2007), are nominated Latin Grammy Awards in the category “Best Flamenco Album”.
