Whirlwinds, burning forests, erased cities – the centuries-old artworks housed in the Louvre strongly resonate with our present time. Amidst these artworks moves a new generation of Rosas dancers. In 2022, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Némo Flouret choreographed Forêt specifically for the Grande Galerie and the so-called ‘red rooms’ of the Louvre, celebrated for their Italian masterpieces and 19th-century French Romantic art. Evi Cats captured this performance, and transformed it into an immersive film that reflects the rich complexity of the live performance.
For Forêt, music dramaturge Alain Franco crafted a soundtrack that avoided competing with the grandeur of the Louvre. Instead, he connected with the audience, moving through the space as they did, embracing the “kaleidoscope of gazes,” as he describes it. The film captures this eclectic energy: at times a distant murmur, at others, sweeping in to take over the scene.
