An entire generation of the Cuban diaspora found themselves reunited on stage in Toulouse in 2017: seven musicians—all soloists—reunited for a “Cuban night” that was also a resounding revelation. These guys had known each other since school, they had grown up together, they had learned music together, they had played together, sharing a love for the music of their island, the traditional but also the most vibrant and contemporary. Then each went their separate ways, pursuing diverse musical adventures, sometimes as a sideman, sometimes as a leader. When they found themselves playing together again, an indescribable joy overcame them, a joy that still unites them, seven years after their Toulouse performance.
El Comité is a group of brilliant soloists who combine experience and talent to form a single entity. No leader, each one comes with their own compositions, their own proposals, undoubtedly forged on the same educational foundation and the same friendly affinities. Joy, friendship, sharing… These are the words that come up when they evoke this musical adventure but also and above all human. It is also what jumps out at each of their stage performances. As their second studio album, Carrousel, is released, they take us on this irresistible ride with singer Laura Prince as a very special guest.
