Kyle Eastwood joins his quintet and the Orchestre National de Lyon to pay tribute to the career of his father, Clint Eastwood. A concert combining jazz, classical music, and cinema.
Clint Eastwood is known for being a music lover. A jazz enthusiast and occasional pianist, he has composed the music for many of his own films since “Mystic River,” and has made it a central theme in his work, through the stories and characters he portrays. He has also passed this passion on to his eldest son, Kyle. After dabbling in film (at 13, he co-starred with Clint Eastwood in “Honkytonk Man”) and dabbling in guitar, Kyle Eastwood pursued a career as a jazz bassist, while regularly contributing to the soundtracks of his father’s films, such as Gran Torino and Letters from Iwo Jima. The jazzman wanted to pay tribute to this passion that unites them through a special concert, where he replays the music that has marked Clint’s filmography, accompanied by his quintet and the Orchestre National de Lyon.
This musical road movie includes expected stops (the themes from “Dirty Harry,” “The Bridges of Madison County,” and “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”) but also rediscoveries, such as the little-known score John Williams composed for the film “The End of the World” (1975). Famous or not, these melodies resonate differently here, reinvented by Kyle Eastwood’s arrangements, which transform them into the material for a free and warm symphonic jazz.
