Born in Sudan to activist parents, relocated to Brooklyn, the young woman knows exile and migration, covering her pentatonic scales with motifs of return, the fate of the displaced and memories of the Nile… “home, an eternal kiss” she says. Roots percussion, traditional oud and jazz-soul or even electro tones make up the sound of Alsarah & The Nubatones who, from ballads to effervescent refrains, do not hesitate to invite trance on the Africolor festival stage, at the crossroads of zār and North African music.
