Two diametrically opposed clans clash under Chrysale’s roof. On one side, his wife Philaminte, his daughter Armande and his sister Bélise live only for poetry and science, disdaining humble domestic work. On the other hand, Chrysale, her daughter Henriette, her brother Ariste and Martine, the maid, do not understand these new ideas, which they take for fads. Macha Makeïeff revisits Molière’s “Femmes Savantes” and adapts the play to the feminist context of the 1970s.
