At 35, Tigran wants to bring to the forefront the musical and narrative traditions that have shaped his sensibility. He intends to make the treasure trove of Armenian tales, stories and songs the subject of his art.
From the outset, he has been deeply convinced that music is more than mere entertainment. But he wants to go further by composing a work that can nourish (or awaken) the spirituality of those who listen to it. In 2018, a book will contribute to this awareness… This book is by Armenian composer and musicologist Arthur Shahnazaryan. In it, the author presents a highly personal approach to a very old Armenian tale, the Bird of a Thousand Voices.
The tale of the bird of a thousand voices moved Tigran. After reading it, he embarked on a long search to find the most poetic version of the tale, and from this he composed 24 pieces that illustrate each stage of the tale musically.
For Tigran, the challenge of the project goes beyond the material and technical difficulties. He wants to bring a story full of poetry and spirituality up to date and into the light of day.
The documentary paints the portrait of an artist searching for his place in today’s world, between the desire to be faithful to his roots and his desire for the universal. In the background of this artist’s search and doubts is the portrait of a country with age-old musical and narrative traditions.
