Every summer, in August, young people from across Europe meet in Budapest on an island in the middle of the Danube, for a week of continuous festivities. Established in 1992, after the collapse of the Communist bloc, Sziget is a unique event both for its libertarian spirit and its atmosphere, taking more from holiday camps than the traditional rock festival. Its name was actually Diàk Sgizet (“the students’ festival” in Hungarian). This year, they were not less than 400,000, attracted by a hundred artists. Through reports, interviews and concert footage, this film shares with us the highlights of this week, during which were produced Nina Hagen, Johnny Rotten (PiL), The Specials, Faithless, Peaches, Ska-P, Madness, Gotan Project and EZ3kiel. Rock, pop, blues, jazz, world music, techno, classical music: all genres were represented.
