With Renaissance, Shani Diluka explores in music a seminal period in Western thought and sensibility, focusing in particular on the two major centers that were humanist Italy and Elizabethan England.
This concert, filmed without an audience in the abbey church of Fontevraud Abbey, the largest surviving Renaissance monastic complex in France, is conceived as a journey through the centuries. Alone at the piano, Shani Diluka performs a selection from her album Renaissance, bringing together 26 works of diverse origins, several of which have been transcribed or adapted for modern piano with rare sobriety.
Divided into four chapters, this program creates a dialogue between music, poetry, painting, mathematics, spirituality, and philosophy. It thus follows the broad outlines of the musical evolution of the Renaissance.
