Rising cello star Astrig Siranossian and pianist Nathanaël Gouin dedicate a concert on the museum’s instruments to the great pianist, teacher, and composer Nadia Boulanger.
The idea to pay tribute to her came to Astrig Siranossian while reading Boulanger’s correspondence: “She was an exceptional teacher, who witnessed all the musical movements of the 20th century. […] Her gift was to shape her teaching according to each personality. She wanted to bring out the best in every student. […] Her teaching was not only musical. She was a figure who educated her students as human beings.” Indeed, this remarkable woman, who over a long teaching career worked with musicians as diverse as Philip Glass, Quincy Jones, and Michel Legrand, was also the one who helped Piazzolla reconnect with Argentine music and boldly championed Stravinsky. Siranossian and Gouin craft a concert in the form of a medley, reflecting the wide-ranging interests and protégés of Nadia Boulanger.
