The New York City Ballet performs three key works from its repertoire during its grand debut in Madrid. The program begins with Serenade by George Balanchine, composed by Tchaikovsky. The first work created by Balanchine, co-founder of the New York City Ballet, after his arrival in the United States in 1934, Serenade has become an emblematic work in the company’s repertoire. To follow: Quadrille, also by Balanchine, which combines American folk dance movements with the rigor and precision of classical ballet in a true tour de force, to music by Vivaldi and Corelli. The dancers finish with The Times Are Racing, choreographed by Justin Peck in 2017. With excerpts from the electronic music album America, by Dan Deacon, The Times Are Racing is a showcase for a new generation of artists.
