The jazz group Le Cri du Caire, accompanied by musician Médéric Collignon, will delight audiences at Nuits de Fourvière 2023.
To coincide with the first part of Avishai Cohen’s concert on the same evening, Le Cri du Caire and Médéric Collignon propose a voyage of initiation, between saxophone, Sufi chant and musical trance. A blend of rock, Sufi poetry, jazz, spoken word and oriental volutes, Le Cri du Caire invents a metaphorically powerful universe that transcends identities and borders. On stage, Abdullah Miniawy’s gripping voice responds to the continuous breath of Peter Corser’s saxophone, Karsten Hochapfel’s “barock” strings and trumpeter Médéric Collignon’s flights of fancy. Through his Sufi chant, sometimes whispered, sometimes loudly proclaimed, he recounts the lives of these peoples whose voices are muzzled in the face of political, social and religious oppression.
