The Franco-Venezuelan musician La Chica takes ARTE Concert’s Piano Day on a cosmic journey between Europe and Latin America.
La Chica cultivates a double family heritage: her mother is Venezuelan and her father French. This mixed identity has been nurtured by a life spent in the Parisian district of Belleville and punctuated by trips to Merida, a city located in the west of Venezuela.
La Chica’s dual nationality informs her abundant electro-pop, the first example of which was the song Oasis, released in 2015. Alongside this solo project, which began in 2013, La Chica has also made a name for herself as part of the 3SOMESISTERS – an explosive quartet mixing polyphonic, pop, electro and jazz.
Since Oasis, La Chica’s melting-pot style has gained strength and has spawned two albums: Cambio (2019) and La Loba (2020). A discography that the artist revisits at the piano in the foyer of the Opéra Comique. Superb.
