Diagnostic is the third component of a musical triptych that the trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf began in 2007 with “Diasporas”, his first album, and enriched with “Diachronism” two years later.
We can recognize the major influence of Balkan brass bands, the Brazilian batucadas, Latin jazz or heavy metal. But “Diagnostic” is above all his most personal work, a kind of soundtrack which is staged with a remarkable power of suggestion the emotional life of a musician who has always viewed his art as a therapy, with what this commitment requires in sincerity and abandonment.
