He is the patriarch of this 15th edition of Jazz à la Villette. At 84, Ernest Ranglin remains an eternal young man. A key figure in the ska movement, he has collaborated with all the Jamaican singers, from Jimmy Cliff to Bob Marley. But it is certainly alongside pianist Monty Alexander that he shone the most as a guitarist. For this highly anticipated evening, Ranglin has surrounded himself with musicians whose paths he has crossed throughout his career: drummer Tony Allen, star of Afrobeat and Fela Kuti’s partner in Egypt 80, the eclectic British saxophonist Courtney Pine, founder of the Jazz Warriors in the 1980s, Senegalese singer Cheikh Lô, pianist Alex Wilson, and finally, bassist Ira Coleman, long-time accompanist of the herald of Jamaican music
