El Gusto is the joy of reunion and shared music: an ambitious project to re-form a mythical orchestra separated by the turbulence of History.
The “chaâbi”, which literally means “sound of the people”, was invented in the mid-1920s in the heart of the Kasbah of Algiers by the great musician of the time, El Anka. A crossbreed, a reflection of a very cosmopolitan Algerian society, the “chaâbi” reached its apogee in the 1950s.
