Bomarzo returns to Europe as part of the Bicentenary of the Teatro Real, in a new production by the Teatro Real and the National Opera of the Netherlands. The conductor is David Afkham, principal conductor of the Spanish National Orchestra and Chorus, with a selected cast and the Chorus and Orchestra of the Teatro Real.
Created in 1967, Bomarzo is based on the novel of the same name by Manuel Mujica Lainez, inspired by the deformed and mysterious sculptures of the sixteenth century in the Park of the Monsters, north of Rome.
