Max Emanuel Cencic’s vision has become reality: the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival has firmly established itself on the international stage, distinguished above all by its rediscovery of long-forgotten treasures of opera seria, brought to life in spectacular new productions amid the baroque splendor of the Margravial Opera House. The festival unmistakably bears the imprint of its founder and artistic director — an artist who, when needed, is ready to step in himself. When soprano Anna Prohaska fell ill at short notice during the 2024 festival, Cencic took to the stage and, together with the resident orchestra Les Talens Lyriques under the baton of Christophe Rousset, delivered a dazzling evening. It is his profound passion for Baroque opera that fuels such moments. With spontaneous artistry and unwavering dedication, he transformed an unforeseen circumstance into a magical experience for the audience.
