Approaching her 80th birthday, Elisabeth Leonskaja, one of the world’s greatest pianists, presents a recital entirely dedicated to the works of Franz Schubert. Born in Georgia, she was one of the few stage partners of Sviatoslav Richter, who admired her “imperious, tender, low-key yet tempestuous talent” (Le Figaro). For this concert, she performs two of Schubert’s most radiant sonatas: the Sonata in D major, composed during the summer of 1825, and the Sonata in B-flat major, D.960, written in 1828, a dazzling swan song of the composer.
