If “Song for My Father” remains the undisputed masterpiece and the most popular album of pianist Horace Silver, “Blowin’ the Blues Away” deserves special attention.
To make us (re) discover this nugget dated 1959 (containing the delightful “Sister Sadie”), the eminent blowing meets a custom group and uses the excellent and sadly underrated American pianist Kirk Lightsey. Attending a concert of the younger brothers Belmondo – who undoubtedly has one of the most beautiful bugle sounds in France – is always a pleasure. Difficult to hide our enthusiasm for the idea of listening him explore such a repertoire, hard bop, funky, exciting and accessible.
