Tropical atmosphere in Ground Control! The singer Hollie Cook plunges us into a universe of reggae and pop with Happy Hour, her new album.
Hollie Cook is the daughter of Paul Cook – famous drummer of the Sex Pistols – and Jennie Matthias – singer in the Belle Stars and Culture Club (Boy George is her godfather). As rebellious as these colorful figures and determined to make a name for herself, Hollie is neither in punk nor in new wave. It is indeed in the Caribbean register that the Londoner operates: more precisely, a reggae music infused with pop that Hollie Cook herself has baptized “tropical pop”.
The discography of Hollie Cook was inaugurated in 2011 by an album simply named Hollie Cook. Twice in 2014, Vessel of Love in 2018 and Happy Hour in 2022 followed. In this new opus, the musician reappropriates 60’s sounds by propelling them into the 21st century. From the Caribbean colors of “Happy Hour” to the James Bond-like atmosphere of “Gold Girl”, Hollie Cook displays the full range of her influences and personality.
Hollie Cook’s timeless and travelled universe is to be discovered on the Ground Control stage.
