Tom Harrell was born in Illinois and started playing the trumpet at the age of eight. He made his professional début at 13. Suffering from schizophrenia, he has found in music a way to communicate his emotions, with rich, elegant and lyrical compositions. He has recorded with Bill Evans, Phil Woods, Dizzy Gillespie, Lee Konitz and other giants of jazz. He spent most of the eighties on tour with Woods, who said about him: “he is the best musician I have met in the whole of my forty-year career.”Tom Harrell is considered to be one of the most creative and intransigent musicians of today. He won the Readers’ and Critics’ Prize for Best Trumpeter in Down Beat, and was voted Best Composer of the year 2001 by the readers of the magazine. He brings us his latest project “The time of the sun”, accompanied by a dream team.
