Saxophonist and composer Charles Lloyd is one of the most enigmatic artists in the history of jazz. In 1966, his “Forest Flower” record sold a million copies. In his quartet, a revelation: Keith Jarrett. Then, at the height of success, the saxophonist retires for ten years to reflect on his art and work on himself. Thus, the ‘monk’ continues his quest, with the support of the ‘mermaid’ Dorothy. If there are many archives on Lloyd in concert, “The Monk and the mermaid – The song of Charles Lloyd” is the first documentary that seeks to unravel the mystery of a personality as astonishing as it is touching.
