The Mediums

Director: Josselin Carré
Genre: Documentary

At the center of this melodic trio is a veteran – a reference! – of the European cello. At his side, there are two young saxophonists who are much talked about, the first one a member of the essential Das Kapital (Daniel Erdmann), the other one (Robin Fincker) coming from the Paris Conservatoire and who has already crossed notes with Evan Parker, Bill Frisell or Paul Rogers.
Based on a repertoire conceived by Vincent Courtois haunted by childhood memories (his father was a fairground decorator) as much as by the phantasmagoria of singular creators (David Lynch in particular), the group elaborates deeply inhabited stories. For that, they found a remarkable middle way between melodicism with immediate seduction and unheard of sound research.
The listener is thus transported in a world of soft poetry, dreamlike without being evanescent. Without equivalent at the moment, this trio of “medium voices” is already considered as a reference. Or how to lay the foundations of a new formation by the alchemy of three perfectly singular raw ways
