Night and Day by Sollazzo – Sacred Love, Profane Loves in the Middle Ages

Director: John Blanch
Genre: Live Show

Watch

The Sollazzo Ensemble is directed by the violist Anna Danilevskaia and brings together musicians with a passion for the late medieval and Renaissance repertoires. Through the repertoires of the French and Italian Ars Nova, this program proposes an anthology of pieces mentioning the stars and the night.
In the Middle Ages, the symbolism of the star referred to both the Virgin and the Lover, and it is thus on the edge of courtly love and devotion that we find ourselves. The fascinating light of the stars, their inaccessible and ideal beauty make them suitable to become a symbol of sacred purity but also of an unattainable love, they approach these two facets during this concert.
