Seven men exalt the power of the collective in an intense and acrobatic dance. Their engine? The rhythm! Unceasing, obsessive, it brings out the ebullition and breathes energy into the bodies.

At the edge between the profane and the sacred, between unbridled modernity and the attachment to the rites that still stand in its way, Näss (“people” in Arabic) confronts the popular and urban dimension of hip hop dance with the profoundly ritual and sacred aspect that it can summon.

The word “näss” means “people” in Arabic, in reference to the famous group Nass el Ghiwane (Bohemian People) which made the Gnawa culture known in the 70s with the hippie movement. The poetic and non-conformist texts earned the members of the group several stints in prison, but allowed the emergence of Moroccan rap, carrying engaged texts, echoing the American model. The history of the famous group Nass el Ghiwane from the 70s in the Maghreb was an important element in my inspiration.
