Maureen is the dancehall phenomenon from Martinique. The artist is turning up the heat on ARTE Dans le Club with her sizzling shatta hits.

Maureen is the new queen of shatta, a musical style derived from dancehall that started in Martinique and has conquered the entire Caribbean, Réunion, French Guiana, and beyond. Maureen’s success is just as massive, with hits such as “Flex,” “Tic,” and “Laptop” (in collaboration with Kalash) making her a key figure in the young Caribbean music scene. Her music has even been featured in a Thierry Mugler fashion show.

What else is on Maureen’s list of achievements? A nomination for the BET Awards—a ceremony organized by the American channel BET to reward African-American artists—in the “Best New International Artist” category. She is thus following in the footsteps of Meryl and Kalash, two Martinican artists who have also taken part in this prestigious competition (and in ARTE Dans le Club!).
