Lee Konitz and Dan Tepfer duo

Along with the names of Miles Davis or Gil Evans, Lee Konitz’s name remains linked to the mythical sessions of the album “Birth of the Cool” at the end of the 50s and to the movement of the same name. Since then, Lee Konitz has multiplied his adventures with a sound that is recognizable among all and full of an intensely fragile blues, the same sound that, in the mid-fifties, already influenced the “West Coast” saxophonists Art Pepper and Paul Desmond. After his debut with Lennie Tristano, Konitz regularly returned to the duo formula with pianist. Michel Petrucciani, Stefano Bollani, Brad Mehldau and Martial Solal have been his partners. It was the latter who introduced him to the American Dan Tepfer, winner of the prestigious Montreux Festival piano competition in 2006. An ideal playing partner for the exercise of spontaneous counterpoint that the saxophonist is so fond of, between delicate improvisations in the form of haikus and refined exploration of standards with, always, this inexhaustible inspiration of one of the giants of jazz history.
