Julian “J3PO” Pollack perfectly embodies the creators of this new millennium and their inclination to embrace multiple musical genres. Strongly rooted in jazz and, more broadly, in urban repertoires, the American keyboardist and producer has performed alongside Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller, and Chris Botti. A well-rounded musician, his career has diversified over the years, notably through composing the soundtrack for the film _The Sound of the Wind_ and exploring the depths of electronic music.
Performing at Studio Le Claque in Paris, Julian Pollack takes advantage of the venue’s superb collection of keyboards to deliver an inspired mini-concert. Two-thirds of the session draws from the trilogy _Small Plates, Mains,_ and _Sweet Treats_, and it reflects a distinctive musical world. Surrounded by an experienced ensemble, the artist revels in the medley _Dovetail / 500 Miles High_ with its jazz-rock accents. Taken from the excellent _Mains_, _Start Sumpthin Up_ begins with a virtuosic flourish before moving toward arrangements that alternate between groovy and velvety. Finally, _I’ve Changed My Mind_ and its layers of vintage synthesizers astonish with their boldness and precision. A treat for adventurous ears…
