Half jazzman, half voodoo priest, Jowee Omicil casts a spell over the Jazz à Porquerolles festival with a spiritual and festive maelstrom blending jazz, gospel, Afro-Haitian rhythms, and hip-hop.
Magnetic, unpredictable, and a true traveler, Jowee Omicil is one of the most inspired Canadian musicians of his generation. He rose to wider fame as the saxophonist in the Netflix series The Eddy, but this multi-instrumentalist has long embodied a free-spirited vision of jazz—rooted in his Haitian heritage, gospel, spirituality, and boundless improvisation. Through this rich musical fusion, Jowee Omicil connects to his ancestry, paying tribute to his island and, at times, seeking to heal the wounds of history.
Throughout his concert at Jazz à Porquerolles, Jowee Omicil showcases his multi-instrumental talents: switching between saxophone, clarinets, flutes, cornets, keyboards, and vocals. And as if that weren’t enough, he is joined by Jendah Manga (bass), Yoann Danier (drums), Arnaud Dolmen (drums), and Jonathan Jurion (piano). More than a quintet—a true orchestra!
