“An emblematic figure of Chiga’s free jazz scene, drummer Hamid Drake (who has played with William Parker and Pharaoh Sanders) is surrounded by other strong personalities in the Indigo Trio: flutist Nicole Mitchell, who is also the director of the Association for Advancement of Creative Music (AACM), and bassist Harrison Bankhead, who played in the avant-garde Albert Ayler tribute project Witches & Devils.
Joined for the occasion by another flutist, Michel Edelin, the Indigo Trio delivers an experimental but flexible free jazz, all in dialogue between the rhythm section and the vagrant flutes.
Nestled in the incredible old stone quarry of Junas, between the Gard and the Hérault, the 17th edition of the festival honors the music of Chicago.”
