With Abdullah Ibrahim, Masekela is one of the pioneering figures of South African jazz. Adept in trumpet and flugelhorn, this composer and singer has played a major role in the emergence of the struggle against apartheid. He contributed to the rebirth of this emancipation movement in his country, but also abroad, such as in 1967 when he shared the poster of the Monterey festival with Otis Redding and Jimi Hendrix, or through his participation in the album “Graceland” by Paul Simon. Back from the United States where President Obama invited him to perform at the inaugural ceremonies of his second term, Masakela presents at the Parc Floral his latest project, written in tribute to one that was his wife for a long time, South African diva Miriam Makeba.
