He is one of the greatest stylists in the history of jazz and invented his own piano language alongside John Coltrane. His exuberant, highly percussive and powerful performance influenced all the pianists of yesterday and today: at seventy-seven, McCoy Tyner continues to travel the American scene but crosses much more rarely the Atlantic. On this Parisian date, he is surrounded by two other eminent keyboardists: the late Geri Allen, who had distinguished herself as a leader (with Paul Motian and Charlie Haden) or as a sideman In Steve Coleman’s Five Elements band, and Craig Taborn, who at forty-seven is one of the most demanding and progressive musicians in New York’s avant-garde scene.
