Jean-Michel Basquiat may be best known for his work as a painter, but the enfant terrible of New York art has also made his mark in the world of music, notably hip-hop, no wave and jazz. It was this porous relationship between art and music that attracted Chassol to this concert. It’s hardly surprising: combining sounds and images is at the heart of the musician’s work, and in his experiential concerts known as “ultrascores” he plays with the eye as well as the ear.
For this concert, the Ground Control presenter weaves together an original work made up of various elements: a little-known tale by Basquiat called Action Comics, quotations by the artist read by the singer Ala.ni, improvisations by his son and nephews… This creation, presented for the first time at the Philharmonie de Paris, is accompanied by compositions from Chassol’s repertoire.
