Zaatar takes over the Brussels Atomium in a performance where EBM, techno and oriental melodies rub shoulders. An unstoppable seasoning accompanied wonderfully by the luminous works of the Visual System collective.
For foodies reading these lines, the term “zaatar” will surely evoke a mixture of spices typical of Levantine cuisine. For electro fans, on the other hand, another atmosphere: they will surely immediately think of the Belgian-Moroccan DJ Zaatar, signed to the labels Ritmo Fatale (Kendal’s baby, also on the bill at the Club at the Atomium) and Dischi Autunno (Jennifer Cardini’s).
Based in Lille, Zaatar combines EBM, trance, techno, new beat, oriental music and retro sounds (80’s and 90’s in particular). Colors that allow her to paint very rich chiaroscuro pieces. Despite her slightly disillusioned post-punk influences, Zaatar is an optimistic and committed type: she is indeed at the origin of the collective Laisse Tomber les Filles, which works for more inclusiveness in the electro scene.
For the Club evening at the Atomium, in a room with circular shapes, Zaatar delivers a feverish set sublimated by a hypnotic light show. As usual, the DJ and producer weaves a performance that is both joyful and melancholic, spiced with a pinch of oriental influences.
