“In demand by the greatest soloists (from Chet Baker to Lee Konitz, including Abbey Lincoln and Barney Wilen), Alain Jean-Marie has established himself internationally as a major artist of bebop piano. He has received the Django Reinhardt Award 1979 and the Boris Vian Award 1999 from the Académie du Jazz, the Django d’Or 2000, and the “Coup de coeur” Award 2008 from the Académie Charles Cros.
In 1992, at the request of Novart, an association of young Guadeloupeans wishing to make this aspect of his art more widely known, he returned to his West Indian roots. With the Biguine Reflections trio, he finds the perfect harmony between the harmonic, melodic and rhythmic contributions of jazz and Caribbean music, which nourish his singular path. Accompanied by Jean-Claude Montredon and Eric Vinceno, he invites Julien Lourau for a meeting placed under the sign of the obvious, considering the predilection of the saxophonist for the stylistic crossings out of the beaten tracks, and the intensity with which he knows to venture there.
