A thrill has run down our spines every time Magma has appeared since the group formed in 1969. Half a century has passed, and when Christian Vander grabs his XXL drums, the audience of the Vienna Jazz Festival is seized by the same excitement (apprehension for some) that precedes an adventure. We could believe the path was clear since the beginning, especially since Magma has not deviated from its concepts. Here, there are nine musicians playing Zeuhl and three singers chanting Kobaïen on orchestrations combining electric jazz and progressive rock. But we never fail to get lost, absorbed as we are in concerts written like operas, alternating between flat plains and vertiginous peaks whose climbs are marked by sharp solos. Cut yourself off from the world and turn up the volume: the journey starts now.
