Sepultura is a Brazilian thrash metal band from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Formed by Max and Igor Cavalera in 1984, the band is one of the most influential thrash, death and groove metal bands of the late 1980s and early 1990s. It then evolved into metalcore, incorporating elements from nu metal, alternative metal and industrial metal.
Formed in a context of police repression that marked the last hours of the military dictatorship, Sepultura experienced international success in the late 1980s in a style close to thrash metal, thus participating in the popularization of this genre in the United States and Europe, and then evolved towards groove metal in its three emblematic albums that are Arise (1991), Chaos A.D. (1993) and Roots (1996). Their fifteenth album, Quadra, will be released in February 2020.
