Tunisian DJ Deena Abdelwahed rocks the Trabendo with a DJ set that’s both avant-garde and hedonistic, with oriental influences.
Deena Abdelwahed is of Tunisian origin, but spent her childhood and teenage years in Qatar. As a young adult, she returned to the country of her roots and discovered the electricity of concerts and club nights in Tunis. Determined to join the movement, the young woman turned DJ and became a member of the Arabstazy collective. It was the start of a career divided between Europe and the Arab world, guided by a constant need to experiment.
Deena Abdelwahed’s universe unfolds in fiery DJ sets and live performances, but also in the studio, where she has released the opuses Khonnar (2018) and Dhakar (2020) on the InFiné label. In clubs and on albums, the Tunisian musician uses music as a vehicle for emotions and reflections: there’s nothing better than getting people dancing while challenging prejudices and backward-looking ideas.
