It’s hard to find a better place than the Chaudronneries de Montreuil to film a Watain concert: sparks, metal, flames, decibels… Erik Danielsson and his bandmates’ legendary passion for the igneous element revives the incandescent atmosphere that once animated this century-old building. Watain’s black metal is forged in the purest Scandinavian vein. Shrouded in darkness and pagan imagery, the now-cult band emerged from the shadows in 2003 with the excellent Casus Luciferi, a second opus with a chilling, tortured and uncompromising style. Four equally fine albums followed: Sworn to the Dark (2007), Lawless Darkness (2010), The Wild Hunt (2013) and Trident Wolf Eclipse (2018).
