Zurich saxophonist Christoph Grab and his quintet devote themselves to the music of jazz visionary Thelonious Monk, one of the most original composers in world jazz who combined tradition and modernity. Christoph Grab brings a new light to Monk’s compositions in his sophisticated arrangements without compromising their simplicity, and at the same time shows that Thelonious Monk was also a marvellous melodist. For the album ‘Live at Haberhaus’, which won the German Record Critics’ Prize, Grab added two brass instruments to his trio and recorded them live to capture the essence of the music – inventing in the moment.
