Marquise Knox is the young standard-bearer of the old blues tradition. Here at Jazz a Vienne in France, he plays a repertoire that he mirrors with his own compositions to old blues standards like ‘Walking The Dog’ and ‘Commit A Crime’. The two respond remarkably well to each other, and with a golden sound, Knox seduces the crowd in a matter of seconds.
Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Knox was raised in the muddy waters and bottle-fed B.B. King. There are few modern blues artists as authentic, as able to sing about their own experiences (a year before this concert, he survived a stabbing on the way home from a gig). With a constant smile on his face, he shows all the facets of the blues, the most arid and the most beautiful.
