In the heights of Lyon, the Théâtre Antique de Fourvière hosts the electro duo The Blaze as part of the Nuits de Fourvière, a multidisciplinary festival celebrating art in all its forms. It is a magical and mystical place that forms the perfect backdrop to a set by cousins Alric, Jonathan and Guillaume. Their Blaze adventure started in 2016, and since then has represented a dazzling journey to the center of the French electro scene. With “Virile,” then “Territory” in 2017, the duo laid the foundations for their sound: calibrated, danceable, poetic.
Dancehall, their first album, released in 2018, won the award for best electronic music album at Victoires de la Musique the following year. With a strong visual sense – as evidenced by their various ultra-sleek videos that accumulate millions of views on YouTube – The Blaze delivers one hour of an elegant and hypnotic performance, which at times feels reminiscent of the live performances of Moderat, Jon Hopkins, or Rone. There is something very intimate about the staging, which acts as a sort of luminous case, with Guillaume and Jonathan face to face. Together, they perform a show that rises in power until the entire audience is on board, never relenting in terms of energy. A gliding, elegant visual and auditory experience.
